CCYS Results Now Available The latest results for the Louisiana Caring Communities Youth Survey (CCYS) are now available. The Louisiana CCYS is designed to assess students’ involvement in a specific set of problem behaviors, as well as their exposure to a set of scientifically validated risk and protective factors. The risk and protective factors have been shown to influence the likelihood of academic success, school dropout, substance abuse, violence and delinquency among youth.
A total of 122,677 students from 61 parishes participated in the 2008 Caring Communities Youth Survey. The students were from 769 schools in grades 6, 8, 10 and 12.
The Louisiana Departments of Education and Health and Hospitals and the Governor’s Drug Policy Board are using this information to plan and implement various prevention strategies. These include the Positive Behavior Support program to reduce suspensions and problem behavior in schools, the Coordinated School Health initiative to address behavioral health issues at pilot sites, and planning models to support the development of targeted parish coalitions.
