Observational Manuscript – Ensuring Literacy for All: What Observational Data Reveal in the First-Year Sample of Representative Schools
During the spring of 2009, the Picard Center led a research study of 12 representative Ensuring Literacy for All schools in Louisiana. As part of an ongoing literacy study, the Center conducted one-day school site visits at each of the representative ELFA schools to obtain an understanding of the implementation process within those schools aggregated at the state level.
Research has shown that the one primary factor in student success is a highly qualified teacher. With this goal in mind, the above research manuscript on the observational portion of the study is intended to be a self-reflection piece for educators and an informative piece for administrators and literacy coaches. It is our intention, through this research, for educators to celebrate their baseline successes in literacy instruction and develop next steps to ensure literacy for all students.
